The condition known as strabismus, or squint, occurs when the eyes are not pointed in the same direction. It occurs more frequently in children and could be related to amblyopia or lazy eye. Adult squint may typically be treated effectively in both of its forms. Depending on the origin, persistence, and severity of the squint, your doctor will advise either a surgical or non-surgical course of action. Children and adults squint for different reasons. Adults who develop a new squint may do so as a result of tumours, myasthenia gravis, trauma, stroke, or thyroid eye disease. Sometimes, your doctor cannot determine an identifiable cause for the squint, and these are called idiopathic.
